The National Technology Day
was celebrated at the Training School Hostel in Anushaktinagar, on May 13,
2003. Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary to
Government of India, Department of Atomic Energy was the chief guest. The
function was presided over by Dr. V K Chaturvedi, Chairman-cum-Managing
Director, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL).
Dr. Kakodkar, in his address stressed that there is an urgent need to deploy
the technologies developed at DAE to the fullest extent so that the benefits of
the same could reach to the common man. He released five sets of brochures
under the general theme “Technologies for Better Quality of Life”. An audio
visual presentation was made on these technologies. Dr. Chaturvedi, in his
presidential address told that NPCIL is implementing its projects at a very
fast pace, and expressed that the Corporation will certainly achieve the
installed capacity of 22,000 to 25,000 MWe by the year 2020. While welcoming
the invitees, Dr. D. K. Sankaran, Additional Secretary, DAE underscored the
role of technology in the betterment of quality of life and solving the
problems of the people.
On the occasion, five
scientists/engineers from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) delivered
technical lectures on various topics. The speakers were the scientists who were
awarded for their excellent work on the last Founder’s Day (October 30, 2002).
Dr. S. Banerjee, Director, Materials Group, BARC, chaired the Technical
Session.
