International Relations

India has been a designated member of the Board of Governors (BoG) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) since the inception of the IAEA. India continued to offer training facilities, fellowships, scientific visits etc. and to make available the services of its scientists for expert assignments both through the IAEA and to countries with which we have entered into bilateral agreements for cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy.

About 448 scientists/engineers/administrators participated in international symposia, workshops, conferences and meetings held under the auspices of various UN and other international organisations as also the IAEA. India also hosted 9 IAEA meetings, symposia and 12 other international meetings including those connected with the World Association of Nuclear Operators - Tokyo Centre (WANO-TC) during 2000-01. Under IAEA fellowships programmes and bilateral agreements signed between Government of India and other countries, about 82 foreign scientists were trained in India during the period.
