Highlights of Performance

During the financial year 1999-2001, the Company achieved a Production of Rs.419 crore and a sale of Rs.405 crore against the target of Rs.440 crore. The Company’s performance against the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with DAE for the year has been evaluated and rated as "good".

Against the annual target of Rs.485 crore each of Production and Sales, the Company has achieved a Production of Rs.302 crore and a Sale of Rs.324 crore upto January 2001. The product range supplied by the Company included:

The Company has booked orders worth Rs.290 crore during the period April 2000-January 2001 and the executable order position as at end January 2001 was Rs.208 crore. The major orders received were for the supply of Electronic Voting Machines worth Rs.62 crore to the Election Commission of India and various types of Fuzes worth Rs.46 crore to the Ministry of Defence. The Company is comfortably placed to execute these orders and meet the annual sales target.

New Products

The following new products, which find applications in strategic areas introduced during the year, are:

High Power Solid State Switch:  Developed indigenously to counter the technology denials being faced 

 
 

ANUNET (Satellite based networking of all the DAE units) being inaugurated 
by Dr. R.Chidambaram, then Secretary, DAE & Chairman, AEC.


 

R&D Programme

The following projects were planned for completion during 2000-01:

    1. DIP Tantalum Capacitors
    2. uP based Stand Alone Double Beam UV-VIS Spectrophotometer
    3. Filter based ELISA Reader
    4. Flame Auto Sampler for Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer
    5. Antenna Control System
    6. Earth Station Antenna to meet revised recommendations of ITU RS-580.5
    7. Low Cost Digital Earth Station Antenna
    8. Fibre Optic based Gyro Land Navigation System (GLNS)

Award

During 1999-2001, the Company received an award from the Ministry of Information Technology (MIT) for "Excellence in R&D in Electronics" (first prize).

Again during 2000-2001 the Ministry of Information Technology (MIT) awarded the Company, the first prize for "Excellence in Electronic Instrumentation".

Quality

During the year (upto January 2001), the Special Products Division received ISO-9002 certification. The Central PCB Facility, Instruments & Systems Division, Servo Systems Division and Thermal Batteries have been recommended for ISO certification.

Exports

During the year (till January 2001), the Company exported - X-ray Generators, worth Rs.105 lakh to Singapore; Gyro Stabilized Horizontal Bar System (GLNS), worth Rs.44 lakh to Russia. The Company also received another export order from Russia for supply of GLNS, worth Rs.87 lakh.

Future Outlook

The Company successfully recovered from the stagnant situation of 1997-99 and has entered the recovery phase. With the anticipated approval of the Restructuring Proposals by the Government, the Company hopes to maintain this upward trend and grow further in the new business environment. The proposals contain certain reliefs to strengthen the financial base of the Company and are in final stages of approval. In line with the restructuring proposals, the Company envisages to evolve as a valuable national asset of the Company in the field of Strategic Electronics.
